Why use 316 stainless steel near salt water or pools?
316 marine-grade stainless contains molybdenum, which improves resistance to chloride pitting compared with 304 stainless steel. It still needs suitable detailing and routine cleaning; salt deposits and contaminants can cause tea staining.
Which Australian Standards may apply?
Depending on the product and site, requirements may include the NCC, AS 1288 for glass, AS/NZS 1170.1 for imposed actions and AS 1926.1 for pool barriers. The current edition and project-specific requirements must be confirmed for the actual work.
